More on Beauty Strategies
Let’s talk about the importance of being current. Have you ever been around someone when all of a sudden you have this odd feeling of nostalgia? I’ve been in homes like this but I’ve even been around people who have changed nothing in decades. I happen to be someone who really likes change whether in the home or in fashion and beauty so I really don’t get it when someone never changes anything. I have a friend whom I love dearly, who has not changed her hair since we first met over 30 years ago. Since that time, I have changed hair styles and colors who knows how many times.
I have another acquaintenence who has the Donna Douglas, Ellie May Clampet thing going on and I think the Beverly Hillbillies went off the air in the 70’s! What’s really bizzare about this is that she is a hair dresser! (She does NOT work at Fantasia, in case you are wondering!)
Keeping current does not have to be an expensive challenge. That is of course, unless you have to have designer everything! The best way to keep abreast of trends is magazines. You don’t even have to buy the magazines, you can hang out at Barnes and Noble and scope out the latest fashion trends. Or how about TV? Oprah is always discussing the hottest, latest and greatest both on her TV show and in her magazine!
Here are some things you should never do/wear/own - particularly if you are over 40!
- a micro mini
- combat boots with formal wear
- white panty hose
- frosted eye shadow
- chunky platform shoes
- dark brown lipstick
- butterfly barrettes
- extreme low-rise jeans
- visible underwear
- spiral perm
In stead, learn what is age appropriate and how to look “modern”. You can look current and youthful without being over the top. Our image should reflect the person we have become, not the person we were.
Here are some “do’s” when it comes to dressing age appropriate.
- Create symmetry with your hair, clothes and makeup - this will make you your most attractive
- Avoid fads; know and wear your trends as soon as you see them emerging
- Update your classics regularly, with trends in color, line and texture
- A little bling goes a long way, when it comes to accents, less is more

- It’s easy to become outdated, looking current keeps you alive and in the game
Age-appropriate is not expressing who we once were, but about declaring who we have become!
